What is reflexology and how can it help you

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body.

A systematic massage of the feet stimulates a reflex action in the corresponding part of the body which is thought to rebalance energy flow.

During a typical reflexology session performed on the feet, a detailed medical history will be taken and the client will be asked to remove footwear and socks and to sit in a comfortable chair or couch.  The precise reflexology massage movements will be applied with an appropriate pressure using the thumb and fingers.

The treatment usually promotes a profound sense of relaxation and is suitable for all ages.It works on an individual basis and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension.

What is reflexology and an Introduction to reflexology video from the Association of Reflexologists. The Association of Reflexologists is the foremost aspirational and independent Professional Association for reflexology in the UK since 1984, providing benefits, advice and guidance to reflexologists and working with other external bodies and advisory groups to promote the highest standards in the profession.

Reflexology is based on the principle there are energy zones that run throughout the body and reflex areas in the feet that correspond to all the major organs, glands, and body parts. See diagrams below.

What is Aromatherapy?

What is aromatherapy and how can is help you

Aromatherapy is the systematic external use of essential oils in holistic treatments to improve physical and emotional well-being.

Essential oils, extracted from plants, possess distinctive therapeutic properties which can be utilised to improve health and well-being.

These natural plant oils are the aromatic volatile liquids that occur naturally in flowers, fruits, seeds, roots, resin and wood, each with their own unique properties.  These pure essences can be applied in a variety of ways mostly through massage, in a base oil, in baths and by inhalation.  Aromatherapy is an effective treatment for stress-related problems and a variety of chronic conditions.

In a typical aromatherapy session Sharon will ask detailed questions about your medical history, general health and lifestyle.  Essential oils will then be blended especially to suit your needs.  The client will be requested to remove clothing from the area to be massaged and to lay on a comfortable couch or to sit in a comfortable chair.

This soothing, balancing treatment usually creates a sense of deep relaxation and peacefulness and may produce a positive physiological and psychological effect.

Sharon works holistically with you and aims to work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health for you. For each complementary therapy Sharon will offer an explanation of the chosen therapy and a treatment plan will be discussed with you.  After care advice is offered, and all information is treated with the strictest confidence.
